GRANTS of up to $3,000 are currently up for grabs as part of round two of the Surf Coast Shire’s Community Event Grants program.
The aim of the program is to support events within the region that foster economic, community or cultural development and prioritise positive environmental and inclusive outcomes.
Surf Coast Shire Major Mike Bodsworth said the grants are for small-scale events celebrating local communities.
“The grant funding can be used for different parts of the event, including equipment, securing venues and promotional items like posers and signage.”
Organisers applying for the grant must hold their event between February 1, 2025, and June 30, 2025, within the Surf Coast Shire.
Torquay Open Gardens hosted its first event this year, with the help of funding from a previous grant round, where attendees could visit the gardens of the regions.
Event organiser Matthew Knight said the grant helped him get it off the ground, allowing him to set it up without risking too much personal capital.
“Many people commented on how well run the event was – partly due to the professional signage that the grant allowed us to purchase.
The Deans Marsh Festival also received funding for its event this year, helping them to provide a low-cost day.
Applications for the current round of grants close on November 29, all applicants must speak to a council events officer before submitting their application.
